Molly & Matthew
An Inspired Elopement in Downtown Portland

So honored to have this edgy elopement inspiration photoshoot featured on the very hip wedding blog Whimsically wed! This bold and magnetic elopement was inspired by the classic architecture of downtown Portland mixed with the grit of the city. Because Portland is becoming such a fun wedding destination, I wanted to highlight the unique urban architecture of historic downtown Portland. It became an incredibly unique photo session between all the fun backdrops such as the psychic readings sign and rooftop dance session. (dip baby dip!) We highlighted the evening sunlight and the cities’ outstanding architecture against the sky along with Molly’s unique emerald velvet dress and sexy leather coat and Matthew’s tweed Jcrew jacket and smooth moves. Thank you Brenna Burnett for floral styling and Biancar for hair and makeup. Inquire for elopement packages.

Best Wedding and Engagement Photography

It’s here! The top 18 from 2018! This is the sixth annual post I’ve created from the top photos from the past year!! For six years now, I have curated a collection of favorites from each wedding & engagement season. (See 2016 & 2017 for more eye candy) This year I just couldn’t decide because I love so many moments for such very different reasons; so I included 18 engagement and 18 wedding photos for a total of 36 finals. (Yeah- more scrolling goodness!) From stunning Crater Lake National Park to the snowy top of Mt. Hood to the historic rooftops of downtown Portland, this past year has been filled with some killer weddings, elopements and engagement sessions. Thank you all so much for your continued support, kind referrals and friendships. I was very humbled and honored to win 2018 best Portland wedding photographer and candid moments with kind and courageous couples, majestic light, and graphic architecture continue to inspire me. Enjoy and I can’t wait to share what’s in store for JHP in 2019 with you soon, including some very fun adventures. I absolutely love capturing the moments that make up your life. Happy 2019 and I look forward to another successful year of making magic documenting the start of your family’s legacy & beyond!

Amanda and Lane
The Vintages Trailer Resort Engagement

Gosh- what can I even say about these two magical people!? Amanda and Lane and I all met up at The Vintages, a very hip vintage RV resort in wine country for a fun afternoon spent biking, making 1927 S’mores and dancing in meadows.  After meeting Amanda at a backyard party after both photographing weddings, we instantly bonded and started working together. Amanda and Lane met and fell in love on a weekend holiday at The Vintages early in their relationship, so it made the engagement session extra special. (awe!) Many of you may recognize her as our talented studio manager & photographer at our awesome sister studio; A Lovely Day Photography! Their fun love and witty jokes had the Glitch Video team and I laughing all the way. (Click here to see their cool engagement video!) Their wedding this month at Union Pine going to be incredible and I can’t wait to document their wedding story!!!

Margaret and Noah and Family
A Tualatin River Engagement

Margaret and Noah have the kind of love that moves mountains and makes you dance under the moon. Margaret is a friend, a fellow (amazing) photographer, and a talented writer bringing attention to things that need to be talked about like mental health, gender and marriage. Noah is an activist and conservationist who adds spark to any room with his wit and humor. I met up recently with Margaret and Noah and Margaret’s two incredible kiddos, Beck and Riley and we photographed at their charming home in the woods on the converge of the Tualatin and Willamette rivers. Needless to say this gorgeous couple and their family was a joy to document and spend time with. We skipped stones and danced under the purple moon and made magic. We also photographed some fun 70’s inspired couple’s glam boudoir pics that you can find over at my Peekaboo boudoir blog. Excited for this intelligent, artistic, kind-hearted couple and their at-home wedding this September.

Lisa and Aki
Oregon Engagement Photography

Lisa and Aki are a kind, cute and giggly couple and we met up back in the late winter around some iconic Portland spots, including Tanner Springs Park in the Pearl District, Trailhead Coffee and the new and iconic Dumbbell building for their colorful and playful engagement session. I first met Lisa and Aki back in 2014 while Lisa was a bridesmaid at her sister Leslie’s awesome wedding! I’m so honored to be photographing their wedding this weekend and to celebrate with these two and their awesome families!

Alison and Nate
Portland Street Art Engagement

Nate and Alison and I met up back in the fall and had an engagement photography adventure of North Portland from the St. John’s Bridge to the incredible murals of Alberta Street to a random office lobby to final drinks and fire cuddles at Radio Room, one of the couple’s favorite date spots on Alberta. Nate and Alison brought the fun and color to this shoot and saved our rainy day with their bright love! Loved their fun animal hoodies, which represented their spirit animals, Nate’s is a grey wolf and Alison’s a tie-dye bear respectively. Hahah!!!  Love this kind couple and their free-spirited and joyful love. SO looking forward to photographing their July wedding!

Raishelle and Riley
A Fred Meyers Engagement Photo Shoot!

Raishelle and Riley met while they both worked together at Fred Meyer! (Or as most of us like to call it: Freddies!!) They were both in the electronics department and started having great conversations and realizing there was something magic there! When Raishelle and Riley and I talked about the possibility of shooting their engagements there, I was SO excited! Of course there are some challenges with a shopping store but I embraced them and love the results. We got permission of course and incorporated some of the awesome iconic Freddie’s magic into the session including that classic red sign, the crafts section, the outdoor garden center, and the electronics department! We finished the session with some beautiful images at Memorial Park in Wilsonville. Raishelle and Riley are kind, intelligent and a fun loving couple and I’m so excited to be photographing their wedding this summer in wine country!

Jenna and Greg
A Sauvie Island Engagement Session

It was a gorgeous summer’s day as I drove to Jenna and Greg’s family home on Sauvie Island in undeniably great light that only Sauvie Island gets. Jenna and Greg are just as kind and beautiful in person as they look and I literally had moments of the movie, The Notebook in my head as I was photographing this wonderful couple. Jenna and Greg met on the first day of medical school orientation and knew they had met someone special. They truly are soulmates and you can see it in the way they look at each other, interact and laugh. What Jenna says about Greg: “What made me fall in love with Greg first was his true happiness. It is the type of happiness that makes it worth getting up in the morning, no matter how hard the day looks. It is the type of happiness that warms you like a blanket on a cold day.”  And Greg of Jenna: “I knew early on that Jenna was everything I could have ever hoped for in this world, the one girl I have been looking for all my life. And even after all this time and all the adventures we faced, I have only come to love Jenna more and more each day, growing not just as an individual, but as a couple of goobers who love each other more than we do ourselves.” WOW! What beautiful words and what a beautiful love! Beyond honored to be photographing their Portland wedding this summer!
